Conference Registration Form

Call for papers

For the Seventh International BRASA Conference the Executive Committee has adopted the following norms for organizing panels and the presentation of papers:

  1. The conference has an open theme.
  2. Panels may be organized by mutual agreement between thematic group coordinators and panel sponsors; BRASA encourages the development of thematic tracks in all of the groups.
  3. All participants in panels must be members of BRASA. Membership forms may be downloaded from the BRASA website or requested from BRASANet. Dues may be sent to the secretariat by regular mail or by e-mail attachment, using an international credit card (MasterCard or VISA).
  4. BRASA recommends that panels have no more than three papers and be chaired by a scholar who is not presenting a paper. Each 120-minute session should allow at least 30 minutes for general discussion or analysis by a discussant following the presentations.
  5. The conference will have two two-hour morning sessions for panels, for a total of 40 panels per day. During the afternoons at least two large-group plenary sessions (15:00-17:00 pm) will be held each day.
  6. Persons interested in organizing panels should contact the BRASA secretariat or the program committee coordinators listed below. Those with suggestions of topics for plenary sessions should contact Professor James N. Green .
  7. BRASA will give preference in accepting proposals to those who submit complete panels that are composed of scholars from different universities and that have an interdisciplinary focus. Each paper proposal should be accompanied by a 1-2-page summary CV and 200-250-word abstract of the paper. A panel nomination form “Ficha de Composição de Mesa” may be downloaded from the Website or requested from BRASANet.
  8. Deadlines for submission and approval of panel proposals are as follows:
    • October 1, 2003 deadline for submission of complete panel proposals to group coordinators.
    • November 15, 2003 deadline for delivery of approved panels to BRASA secretariat.
    • December 15, 2003-January 15, 2004: Secretariat mails letters of acceptance to panelists.
  9. BRASA encourages group coordinators and panel sponsors to circulate specific panel calls for papers in the spring and summer of 2003 on BRASANet.

For more information, contact the BRASA office using the BRASANet listserve .
